earth growth I work with a range of clients that present a variety of unique circumstances. However, there is a common thread, they are not reaching their full potential.

During our initial meeting we will discuss your specific areas of concern as well as assess if we are the right client/therapist fit. From here, we will be able to create your personalize treatment plan and discuss how it can best work into your day-to-day life. The Treatment Plan outlines your specific goals, how we will measure them, and what will happen to help you reach them. Also, it will outline who is in charge of what aspects of it. For example, an individual may need to practice new skills to help cope with symptoms of anxiety, a parent may learn new parenting techniques, and your therapist may provide you with a list of strategies or resources. The following sessions will focus upon meeting your Therapy Treatment Goals. We will discuss the progress and decide if we need to add goals, change them, or if you feel you have met your counseling goals. My goal is to help you decide when you’re done with counseling, so you can get on with your life.
Dr. Thornhill is trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 and Level 2. Dr. John Gottman’s research started in the 1970’s and focuses on what makes marriages or committed relationships succeed or fail. From years of extensive research, Drs. John and Julie Gottman have created a method of therapy and counseling that emphasizes a grounded and realistic approach to improving couple relationships. The Gottman Method teaches specific tools and skills to deepen friendship, increase intimacy in your relationship, and help you productively manage conflicts. We will also work together to redefine your relationship and help you to appreciate your relationship’s strengths and to gently navigate through its vulnerabilities.During the initial  session we complete the paperwork, discuss confidentiality, and begin to hear your story, and set you and your partner up to take the online Relationship Checkup assessment. This assessment must be completed prior to your individual session with me.
The second and third sessions I will meet with each person individually. The other partner does not have to come to the session, as I will only meet with one partner during the session. During your individual session I will discuss the results of your Relationship Checkup assessment in detail, obtain your perspective of the issues impacting your relationship, and obtain any clarification needed for the Relationship Checkup.
During the fourth session I will discuss the results of individual Relationship Check with the couple together and we will identify your relationship goals, decide how we will measure progress toward them, and how we will work together to help you reach them. This will become your treatment plan and we will work towards these goals each session.

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Coverage Parity laws require most health plans to apply similar rules to mental health benefits as they do for medical/surgical benefits. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions of your insurance provider:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Please note the cancellation policy. If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified us at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
